WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: The Bloodline, Judgement Day tease alliance amid power struggle

Things are getting complicated on WWE SmackDown. Jimmy Uso wants back into The Bloodline, AJ Styles scored a big win and tension is building between multiple factions. Uso's determination to mend things with his family was a major focal point of Friday's show. The Bloodline is losing its grasp on the blue brand and a power struggle is bubbling with The Judgement Day, among other groups, trying to build alliances and seize control. SmackDown also featured the continued upward trajectory of LA Knight, an exciting potential feud between popular factions and the announcement of an upcoming title match.

WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: John Cena and AJ Styles align, The Rock and Pat McAfee appear

John Cena is finding common ground with old foes. Cena found an ally in AJ Styles and embraced ex-rival Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on a star-studded episode of WWE SmackDown. Cena made his first of seven consecutive SmackDown appearances on Friday night following a brief visit on Sept. 1 and an excursion to WWE's live event in India last week. Cena on television is always going to generate headlines. A head-on collision with The Bloodline and unannounced appearances by The Rock and Pat McAfee turned the blue brand into a borderline spectacle. SmackDown also featured the continued rise of LA Knight, The Judgement Day and the newfound trio of Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits.

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Jey Uso turns down Judgment Day offer, loses main event to Drew McIntyre

Since Cody Rhodes brought Jey Uso to Raw, the locker room has been divided on whether the former Bloodline stalwart could be trusted. On Monday night, Uso delivered a message in his own defense by turning away the advances of Judgment Day in the main event of Raw. Uso had been courted by the members of Judgment Day since joining Raw, with locker room members such as Kevin Owens and Drew McIntyre doubting Uso could keep himself from again turning to the dark side and aligning with a heel faction. While losing to McIntyre, Uso delivered a firm "no thanks" to those advances by hitting superkicks on Damian Priest, Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio.

  • Kofi Kingston def. Ivar via pinfall with Trouble in Paradise. This was advertised as a two-out-of-three falls match between New Day and Viking Raiders before the show but was instead a straight singles match. Luckily, the bait-and-switch didn't matter much as the two men put on a fantastic match.
  • Shinsuke Nakamura def. Ricochet via disqualification after Ricochet struck him with a chair. Prior to the match, Seth Rollins attempted to attack Nakamura but was stopped by security. Rollins got his opportunity after the match, running in after Nakamura smashed Ricochet's leg with a chair several times. As Rollins tried to deliver a pedigree, Nakamura backdropped him onto the chair before delivering several moves on the commentary desk that also impacted Rollins on his injured back.
  • Chelsea Green & Piper Niven def. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark via disqualification after Nia Jax ran in and attacked Niven. Jax then attacked all four women and put each down one by one before leaving the ring.
  • Bronson Reed def. Chad Gable via pinfall with a Tsunami. The match happened after a confrontation between the two backstage.
  • Tommaso Ciampa def. Giovanni Vinci via submission with the Sicilian Stretch. A Ciampa promo aired earlier in the night with Ciampa calling for a match with Gunther.

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Judgment Day beats Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in chaotic main event

The three male members of Judgment Day entered Raw on Monday night with plenty to lose. Every man in the group was set to defend the titles around their waists on the show -- and all three left still holding their belts. In the main event, Damian Priest and Finn Balor managed to retain the WWE undisputed tag team titles in a rematch with former champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. As is their way, Judgment Day leaned on a lot of outside interference to remain champions, but the shape of the group feels very much in flux as JD McDonagh continues to try and work his way into being an accepted member of the group.

  • Bronson Reed def. Otis via pinfall after a Tsunami.
  • Tegan Nox def. Natalya via pinfall with The Shiniest Wizard. Becky Lynch spoke to Tegan Nox backstage, with Lynch telling Nox that she believes Nox should be the next woman to challenge for her NXT women's championship. This led Nox to ask Adam Pearce if she could get the winner of Lynch's title match at NXT No Mercy. Natalya interrupted and the two argued before Pearce suggested a match rather than a title shot being handed out.
  • Tommaso Ciampa def. Ludwig Kaiser via pinfall with a jumping knee. Kaiser seemingly had the match won but Giovanni Vinci was down and attended to by the referee, leading to increased tension in Imperium. It was later confirmed that Ciampa will get an intercontinental championship match with Gunther and the two would sign the contract for that bout next Monday.
  • Shinsuke Nakamura accepted Seth Rollins' challenge for a rematch. A Nakamura video package aired in the middle of a Rollins promo saying that Rollins told him to name whatever it would take and Nakamura wanted to challenge for Rollins' world heavyweight championship in a Last Man Standing match at Fastlane.
  • Nia Jax def. Zoey Stark via pinfall after a bonzai drop. Stark confronted Jax during a promo where Jax talked about all the women she'd attacked since returning and called herself the baddest human in the locker room.
  • Drew McIntyre def. Kofi Kingston via pinfall with a Claymore. McIntyre and Kingston argued when McIntyre was on "Miz TV," calling him out for not helping Jey Uso when he was attacked by New Day last Monday. During the match, Ivar of Viking Raiders attacked Xavier Woods at ringside, providing distraction for McIntyre to get the win. McIntyre then shrugged and left the ring, leaving Kingston to be attacked by Ivar.

WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: John Cena, LA Knight, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso unite against rivals

The Bloodline and The Judgement Day formed a deadly alliance on SmackDown, but their strength could not overcome the combined forces of John Cena, LA Knight, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. It was an all-star episode of WWE SmackDown on Friday night. Cena and Knight are a cohesive duo ahead of their WWE Fastlane match against Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. The Bloodline has never shied from manipulating the numbers and found questionable yet formidable friends in The Judgement Day. Their alliance seemed unbeatable on the surface but cracked under the pressure of WWE's biggest current stars. SmackDown also featured appearances by United States champion Rey Mysterio, WWE women's champion Iyo Sky and the tease of a mystery partner for one of Fastlane's matches.

WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight contract signing set, brand clashes brewing

LA Knight will not be denied. The superstar is brimming with confidence and looking every bit like a major player ahead of his match against Roman Reigns for the WWE universal championship. Knight went toe-to-toe on the microphone with special counsel Paul Heyman in Reigns' absence, but The Bloodline's impact was felt throughout the show. Jey Uso sought revenge on Jimmy Uso after the latter cost Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes the undisputed tag team titles earlier this week. Jey Uso's surprise appearance also led to bubbling tension between new SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis and Raw general manager Adam Pearce. John Cena's feud with the family also raged on. WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: LA Knight takes Roman Reigns' seat at the head of the table

Roman Reigns may have no choice but to acknowledge LA Knight. The next challenger for the undisputed WWE universal title outmaneuvered the reigning champ at every turn ahead of their Crown Jewel clash. Knight's star shined brighter than ever on SmackDown. The blue brand was once The Bloodline's dominion, but the show is very quickly becoming Friday Knight SmackDown. Knight outperformed Reigns with his words and his fists from start to finish. Knight talked a big game and backed it up in Friday's opening and closing statements, sapping all the momentum from the defending champion ahead of next week's pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia. WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Asuka aligns with Damage CTRL after main event turn

With Kairi Sane returning at Crown Jewel and immediately linking up with Damage CTRL, it was clear some of SmackDown's top women superstars would need to align to handle an increasingly dangerous group. That appeared to be exactly what was happening in Friday's SmackDown main event before Asuka turned and aligned herself with Damage CTRL. Asuka teamed with Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a match that came about because Belair was upset over Sane's return leading to her loss in the women's championship match at Crown Jewel on Saturday. Asuka had bigger plans than working with Belair and Flair, however, and ended the night celebrating with her new Damage CTRL allies after spraying mist in Belair's eyes.
