Yeah, the show synopsis says this was (if I'm remember right) before Blackbeard's reign - I'll have to see if I can find where I read that.
 
And the real life Jack Rackham had the famous jolly roger flag on his ship, which is why they have this subplot about him trying to design the perfect flag.
 
Rackham had the skull and crossed swords. The regular Jolly Roger has the skull and crossed bones.

At least that's what I know from my husband's telling of it because his Navy squadron flew the black flag for VF 84 Jolly Rogers, but it was specific to the squadron.

Vane has nothing to do with the gold. He was in Charleston with his men waiting in the water to take Flint's fancy Spanish warship. Then he's come back to deal with Elanor. He said so in his note.
 
I was wondering how he got there so fast too. If they left off of Nassau and I hear they keep saying they're going to New Providence, where was New Providence back then? Because it's the capitol of Nassau today. I'm going to have to watch again. I'm confused.

OH, I saw him in the water, but I didn't realize he was hiding in the water at Charleston. I was probably playing with my DOG. :rwmad:
 
I guess he left at least a day before Flint, probably as soon as he killed Guthrie.
 
Remember when Vane was buried alive but he dug himself out and we saw his dong covered in soil? He has magic powers basically.
 
GOOD EPISODE. I was sad that Randall died. He was a crazy old man with a wooden leg. Couldn't Vane's men have just knocked him out? Jerks. I think John was sad too.
